In ancient times, hideous and deformed peasants were cast out of the village, into the swamp. Once a year, these Bouffons would return to amuse and abuse the beautiful medieval hipsters. In twenty-first century Melbourne, nothing’s changed.

ONE-ARM AND THREE ARMS IN THE SWAMP is (de)based on Philippe Gaulier’s myth of the original French Bouffons. It is performed by Sean-James Murphy, who trained at l’ecole Philippe Gaulier in Paris and recently starred in BIG SKY TOWN (2007 St Martins National Playwriting Award); and by Ash Flanders, star of I LOVE YOU, BRO (Melbourne Dramatists Emerging Playwright Award, 2007 Melbourne Fringe) and one half of the outrageous queer trash theatre outfit Sisters Grimm (“Like John Waters on Crack” – The Age).

ONE-ARM AND THREE ARMS IN THE SWAMP is written by Tom Doig, creator of last year’s monster smash HITLERHOFF (“Clever, funny and outrageous” – The Age; “Laugh out loud and cringe with disgust” – Artshub). It is directed by Alethea Jones, whose short films have won awards at the 2008 St Kilda Film Festival and Cronulla Shorts Film Festival.
